The Unexplained Phenomenon of gambling.
The thing
that fascinates me about blackjack gambling, is that it is accepted that you
are less likely to win if you play tired, hungover, hungry or if you drink weak
alcohol such as beer, and more likely to win if you have had a good sleep, have
eaten, and are drinking strong alcohol.
In my experience this is true.
The question has to be why?
Because, after all, surely the same cards will come out of the shoe, if you
turn up at the same table at precisely the same time?
In blackjack gambling all your decisions are standard and automatic, depending
upon the cards.
So, is it that your perception of the Universe has changed, or that you have in
fact changed the Universe in some way (such as the so called "Butterfly
Effect")?
By being fresh, eating, and perhaps drinking strong alcohol, you have arrived
at the casino in a different reality, than if you were hungover and hungry.
I don't think this phenomenon has ever been properly explained, to date.
But to me it is similar to meditation and its effects.
Does meditation simply alter your perception of the Universe, or create a new reality?
Perhaps it could be explained like this, we are aware of our weakened mental
and physical state, and so we project this onto the outcome.
This is similar to the psychosomatic effect of placebo drugs. We think they
will work, and so they do.
The casinos know this of course. That is why there are no clocks or windows in
most casinos. They want you to keep playing until you lose. In other words, you
get more tired, or drunk.
Equally as puzzling is the effect of changing a dealer.
If a table is doing too badly with one dealer, and every player is winning
every hand, most often with the dealer always busting, then immediately a
signal will come down from the upper rooms, from the people watching the tables,
and the dealer will be changed.
They will bring on their "unlucky" dealers. The ones who always
manage to draw a 21, and crush the players.
And, oddly, as soon as the dealer has been changed, the table will not run hot
anymore.
But why? The same cards are stacked in the shoe, in exactly the same order.
There is no new shuffle.
Perhaps, it is just a different collection of atoms and molecules, which serves
to change the luck of the table.
Many respected physicists are beginning to support the view that nothing exists
in its physical form, leaning more towards the concept of the Earth as a
hologram.
This may help explain
the unexplained phenomenon. If the cards do not exist in the physical form,
only in the conscious mind, then they would not really exist until they were
exposed and read by our brains, and seen. Therefore, the differing energy of a
new dealer, and the differing energy of a hungover and sober brain, may well
affect the outcome of the bet. And that in turn would affect the next bet.
Does my unexplained
phenomenon of blackjack gambling therefore help prove that nothing exists in
the physical world, only in our brains? Perhaps.
